Our veterinary services at Clinton Hill Animal Clinic in Brooklyn focus on pet health in several ways. One of those is with vaccinations for cats. We are the veterinarian near you who provides services from kittenhood to adulthood to ensure your feline friend enjoys a healthy life.
Maintaining Your Cat's Health
Felines, just like canines, are susceptible to a variety of things that can impact their health. When pets receive vaccinations, this first step helps protect your kitty from disease. At our animal clinic, we focus on three vaccinations: rabies, distemper/parvo, and leukemia.
Rabies
Rabies is a severe viral disease found among wild animals, such as foxes, bats, and raccoons. The disease is transmitted by an infected animal through its saliva when it bites another animal, such as your cat. Whether your cat stays indoors all the time or has access to the outdoors periodically, he or she needs to be vaccinated. You never know when your fur friend may accidentally get access to the outdoors, or there is always a chance an infected animal will find its way into your home. Either way, once vaccinated, your cat is protected against the disease. Rabies is fatal for unvaccinated cats.
Distemper/Parvo
Feline distemper, also known as feline panleukopenia, is caused by feline parvovirus. It is an extremely contagious disease that can be fatal. There are signs to watch for that will alert you that there is a problem. These include dehydration, depression, diarrhea, lack of energy, painful abdomen, the pet's coat is in poor condition, vomiting, weight loss.
Feline Leukemia
The feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is an infectious disease commonly found in felines. It is spread from one cat to another via contact with saliva, urine, nasal secretions, bite wounds, and scratches.
Feline Veterinary Services
When you bring your cat in for a checkup, our veterinary services include everything needed to maintain good health, including vaccinations. A vaccination is a key step in your cat's life to help build and strengthen his or her immune system against specific diseases. It is important to begin the vaccination process early. Our veterinarian will let you know how often and the type of vaccinations your cat will need.
