A Rabies Vaccination Helps Keep Brooklyn Healthy
As part of our Brooklyn veterinarians' commitment to the community, we are passionate about ensuring that your pet is safe from rabies. Rabies is not curable, but it is preventable through vaccinations. Be sure you visit one of our veterinary hospitals, Clinton Animal Clinic or 6th Avenue Animal Clinic, to keep your pet's vaccination series up to date.
Rabies Explained
Rabies is a viral disease that passes most commonly through the bite of an infected animal. When a pet doesn't get a rabies vaccination and contracts the virus, even a trip to our veterinarian or treatment with meds for pets from our on-site pharmacy cannot cure what a simple vaccination could have prevented.
Rabid animals are very dangerous to other animals and humans because biting behavior increases with the progression of the disease. Once the nervous system is infected, rabies victims are unlikely to recover from the disease. When humans are bitten by an animal whose rabies vaccination status is unknown, the victim must go through a series of preventative treatments to stop the potential spread of rabies in their system. It really is THAT dangerous. So, you see why vaccinations are critical to preserving the health of your pet, your family and your community.
Veterinary Rabies Vaccinations are Working!
Worldwide, about 97% of all rabies cases come from dog bites. However, in the United States, pet vaccinations through veterinary hospitals and local animal control have nearly eliminated the potential for rabies infections in dogs. We value our partnership with the Brooklyn community to keep our city free of rabies.
