Pet Car Accidents

Pet Car Accidents

You love your pet and they love you. The two of you want to be together all the time. That includes when you are out in your vehicle. Unfortunately, there are six million car accidents every year. Over 35,000 Americans die every year as a result of car accidents. Pets who travel in cars with their owners can also be injured or killed and in some cases are responsible for the accidents that their owners have. At Clinton Hill Animal Clinic in Brooklyn, the health and safety of your pet is the primary concern of our veterinarian and our dedicated staff.

Why Unrestrained Pets are Dangerous

If your pet is traveling unrestrained in your car, they can interfere with your ability to drive. They can come between you and your brake or gas pedal, the can restrict your ability to steer and to use your blinkers. They can also operate the windows by stepping on the located controls. In the event of an accident, they can also interfere with the ability of airbags to effectively protect you.

Allowing your dog to ride around with you with their head out the window puts them in great danger. They can be hit by an object outside the vehicle and if you need to stop quickly they can be thrown from the vehicle.

Keep Your Pet Safe

The AMVA recommends that pets traveling in a vehicle be restrained or placed in a carrier. This is the best way to make sure that both you and your pet stay safe. You wouldn't travel without a seatbelt, so why let your pet be in danger?
