3 Types of Tumors Treated
Like humans, pets can develop both benign and malignant tumors quite suddenly, leaving pet owners unsure what to do. The tumors tend to vary greatly in type, size, and severity. It is important to notify your Brooklyn veterinary team right away if you notice a growth on your pet. To help you go into the appointment well-informed, here are three types of tumors treated at Clinton Hill Animal Clinic.
Lipoma
Most commonly found in dogs, lipomas start as small tumors that grow just beneath the skin. As time passes, these benign masses continually grow larger. If they are located around the limbs and get too large, your pet may have a hard time walking or running around. In addition to getting bigger, pets tend to develop additional lipomas as the condition progresses. These growths mimic the appearance of many other tumors, making it necessary to have them checked out by your veterinarian.
Mast Cell Tumors
Similar to lipomas, mast cell tumors appear just under the skin. These tumors appear to change size from day to day, however. They may grow rapidly and shrink again without reason. As they mimic other tumors in appearance, veterinarians look at the location and symptoms to make a diagnosis. These tumors tend to appear most often the trunk and legs.
Papilloma
When infected by the papilloma virus, dogs start to develop small tumors in their mouths. These tumors can cover the dog’s tongue, lips, and other oral tissues. If the papilloma tumors start to develop an infection, they may cause bad breath and discomfort. Although rare, these tumors can turn malignant. Upon noticing any small growths in your pet’s mouth, you can schedule a visit to your local animal clinic to have it checked out.
